The history of these unique beizli dates back to a time when the soil in St. Gallen was still damp and marshy. The half-timbered houses were therefore built on sturdy wooden piles. While the dark first floor was used for livestock breeding and commerce, the brighter second floor became a place of leisure and conviviality. Today, you can enjoy the warm atmosphere of the Erststockbeizli, created by the low wooden walls and well-preserved Gothic ceiling beams.
