Ticino “grotti”
The “grotti” are rustic buildings – usually located in shady, secluded areas – that hold the secrets and flavours of Ticino. Once used as pantries, these grotti are now open to the public in search of an authentic gourmet experience. You are invited to discover the typical Ticinese gastronomy on granite tables, in the shade of centuries-old trees. Local products are served with Merlot or Gazzosa.
Other discoveries
While the local gastronomy alone makes a stay in Ticino worthwhile, there are many other activities that perfectly complement a stay in Switzerland’s most Mediterranean canton.
Whether you prefer nature, culture or sport, novel activities are waiting for you.
Robasacco: taking ancient paths to Monte Ceneri
Ticino is a particularly inviting region for hiking, with its mild, Mediterranean-like temperatures and varied landscapes featuring glaciers, lakes, valleys and castles. The tour from Robasacco to Quartino is a mountain pass hike with a difference, taking you from the valleys of Ticino through an enchanting chestnut forest to Monte Ceneri and back to the valleys on an ancient trail over the pass.

For culture lovers
Gastronomy is an important part of Ticino culture, but not the only one!
Art, architecture and history are omnipresent, both in nature and in the towns that make Ticino so charming. There are about sixty museums and art galleries, with a wide variety of themes. Its architecture can be admired in every valley, on every street corner.
Cinema also plays an important role in the Ticino landscape: the valleys, lakes, hotels and castles of the canton are regularly immortalized – like the Verzasca Valley dam with James Bond’s famous jump in GoldenEye. The Locarno Film Festival, with its Golden Leopard award, makes the 7ème Art shine far beyond its borders.
Finally, the local traditions remain strongly anchored and traditional festivals — such as the carnival — come to life every year.
A sports paradise
Cycling, skiing, sledding, canyoning, sailing, climbing, paragliding, bungee jumping: so many sensational and varied activities guaranteed to give you a thrill!
