Basel, city of delights
Open to the world, lively, and in love with art and culture: that’s Basel.
Located in north-western Switzerland, this city is teeming with contrasts. Between tradition and modernity, Basel mixes trendy pubs and traditional restaurants, ancient art museums and contemporary galleries, modern architecture and its old town flair, traditional festivals and novel events. The people of Basel are both proud of their deep-rooted traditions and open to the influences and trends of the wider world.
Culinary specialties are an important part of the cultural showcase: Basler Läckerli are at the top of the list, but the city also has its share of typical dishes, breweries, distilleries… even salmon.
Cafés and restaurants, visits and wine tastings, hiking tours along the Rhine, bars and clubs: let the magic of Basel sweep you off your feet.

Läckerli: an especially spicy rectangular-shaped biscuit
Basel’s cuisine is known for having so many sweets that you might almost think you’re snacking all day long. It was in this Rhineland town that the most famous sweet cookie, the Basler Läckerli, was born in the 17th century. What started out as classic gingerbread has developed over the years into a specialty made with honey, hazelnuts, almonds, candied fruit and spices.
